On Friday, March 1, at 2:30 pm the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea board
members unveiled the official logo newly developed for the Kentucky Artisan
Center at Berea during Kentucky Crafted: The Market, at the Kentucky Fair and
Exposition Center, South Wing A, Louisville, KY.
Victoria Faoro, the Center's Executive Director, opened the ceremony by
communicating Secretary Ann Latta's greetings and regrets that she was not able
to attend. Victoria provided a brief overview of the Center's mission,
building, and programming.
Ken Gastineau - a Berea artist and business owner who chairs the Center's
Artisan Advisory Committee told how the idea for the center developed as a way
to bring more people to Berea and provide a place for artisans to offer quality
products year round. He spoke of the Center's goals for helping artisans make a
good living from their work, enabling them to educate the public about making
crafts.
Lou DeLuca, Deputy Secretary, Education, Arts & Humanities Cabinet, who has
been involved with the project from the time it was brought to Dr. Roy
Peterson, spoke of the Education, Arts and Humanities Cabinet's work with
Berea, CEDET, craft artisans, and the college to develop the project, helping
make it into a statewide project with a tourism focus.
Dr. Marlene Helm, Secretary of the Education, Arts & Humanities Cabinet, spoke
of ways the Center is partnering with the Craft Marketing Program and the
Kentucky Arts Council to expand opportunities for artisans.
On behalf of Secretary Ann R. Latta, Secretary of the Tourism Development
Cabinet, Victoria spoke of the Center's role as a gateway for cultural heritage
tourism, encouraging visitors to visit Berea, the "Folk Arts and Craft Capital
of Kentucky," as well as attractions and trails around the state.
All Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea authority board members present joined the
speakers to unveil the logo, which is based on the shape of the Center's entry
pavilion, and was designed to suggest the exciting artisan activity in the
center and throughout the state. Dr. Clifford Kerby, mayor or Berea, spoke of
his excitement about the Center, and staff and board present remained present
to answer questions about the logo and the Center.
