Site work began March 2002 shortly after the contract was awarded to Wilburn
Construction of Lexington, KY. The contractor and subcontractors were
charged with building a facility that is exemplary in its artisanry.
Summer 2002 - 2003, Kentucky Stone Mason Bobby Cameron and his artisans have
worked to lay limestone quarried in Harrodsburg, KY, on the exterior and interior
walls of the Center. To keep the appearance consistent, he frequently
repositioned his stone artisans so no one area began to take on the signature
style of a particular artisan.
A combination of five different colors of natural slate were integrated to
create the slate roofs, and copper was installed on several other roofs.
Inside the Center, exposed wood decking was installed overhead, with laminated
beams and support columns.
