George Gow, Richmond, KY

painting

George Gow has been painting since the 1960s, working in oil, acrylic, gouache and transparent watercolor. Recently he’s taken a few workshops with nationally known artists, but primarily he’s self taught as an artist.

As a child George drew all the time. He bought his first set of paints after graduating from college and over the years painted whenever had had the time.

His preference is to paint outdoors (plein air), however when unable to paint on location he paints from memory rather than from photographs. Cloudy skies, rolling hills, mountain streams and waterfalls are his favorite subject matter. Since 2001 he has taught Plein-Air Painting and watercolor courses for the Dept. of Community Education at Eastern Kentucky University.

George’s work is found at Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
