Beth McGrath, Cold Springs, KY

Crone Cottage

fiber - dolls

Beth McGrath’s mother, who made all of her clothes, taught Beth to sew when she was a young child in Fort Thomas, KY. As Beth’s sewing skills developed, she began making dolls for her doll house, and before long her dolls were becoming too large for her doll house.

Sculpting classes at the Cincinnati Art Academy provided Beth with a way to fashion unique faces for these dolls. She explains that often her dolls are inspired by family members, but adds that she never knows exactly what a doll will be like when she begins it.

Beth is a member of the River City Doll makers, and is a juried member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen and the Kentucky Arts Council’s Kentucky Craft Marketing Program.

Works by this artisan can be found at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY.
