The Center’s exhibits, shopping, and travel information areas are open daily from 8 am to 8 pm and the café from 9 am to 5 pm. December 21, 2011 From the Director – Our holiday season enjoyed an exciting start when First Lady Beshear visited the Kentucky Artisan Center November 28 to announce that Governor Steve Beshear was proclaiming December 2011 as "Give a Gift Made in Kentucky Month." The Kentucky Artisan Center is always a great place to find Kentucky gifts, with everything sold at the Center being a Kentucky-made product. Visitors shop here daily for unique gifts made by artisans from all across the state. We hope as you gather this season with family and friends or travel to join them, you will visit our center to select gifts, dine in our cafe, or just enjoy our hospitality. NEWS & UPCOMING EVENTS *Kentucky Artisan Center Named in USA Today's* "10 Great Places to Shop for Crafts"** The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea was the first of ten craft galleries in the United States included in a feature article, "10 Great Places to Shop at Crafts Galleries" in the Dec. 9 weekend edition of USA Today. When Wendy Rosen, editor of American Style magazine, was asked to share some favorite shops with USA Today's Larry Bleiberg, first on her list was the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, a state agency in the Tourism, Arts & Heritage Cabinet of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Rosen spoke of Kentucky's championing of its state's crafts, beginning with former Kentucky First Lady Phyllis George's work. click here for USA Today article Holiday Hours at the Center Except for the special hours listed below, the Kentucky Artisan Center will be open 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. over the holidays, enabling shoppers to select from an amazing array of distinctive Kentucky handmade treasures created by over 650 artisans. Special Holiday Hours: December 24 — open 8 am - 5 pm; cafe closes at 4 pm December 25 — Christmas Day (closed) December 31 — open 8 am - 5 pm; cafe closes at 4 pm January 1 — New Year's Day (closed) Winter Hours at the Center Begin Jan. 2 The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea's winter hours of operation will be in effect Jan. 2 - March 30, 2012. During this period the center will be open daily from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and the center's cafe will be open 9:30 - 3:30. Artisan demonstrations at the center will continue to be held from 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. every Saturday. Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea Invites Artisan Applications for 2012 The Kentucky Artisan Center sells primarily work by Kentucky artisans who are juried into the Kentucky Arts Council's programs, the Kentucky Proud Program, the Kentucky Guild of Artists & Craftsmen and the Southern Highland Craft Guild. Several times a year, however, the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea accepts applications from artisans not involved in these programs and not already working with the Center. The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea invites Kentucky artisans to apply to have their work selected to be offered for sale at the center. Product application categories are crafts and other visual arts, music, film, foods, and literary works. Applicants must be residents of Kentucky and at least 18 years of age. Application forms may be requested by calling the center at 859-985-5448. Forms may also be downloaded from the center's website. Deadlines for Receipt of Applications: Dec. 31, 2011 (for January 2012 review) June 30, 2012 (for July 2012 review) Sept. 30, 2012 (for October 2012 review)

ARTISANS IN THE NEWS Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea Brook Forrest White, Jr. had his work on exhibit at J. Higgins Gallery in Louisville. Gary Cooper of Cooper's Woodworking Studio was the recipient of an Award of Excellence for his woodworking at the 2011 Greater Cincinnati Winter Fair. The Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum has named Kentucky author and tea blender Bruce Richardson as Tea Master for the historic project opening in Boston Harbor on June 24, 2012. Richardson is a columnist for TeaTime magazine and is a frequent guest speaker at tea, art, and historical events across the country. For 22 years, he has been the owner of Elmwood Inn Fine Teas in Perryville, Kentucky. His teas and books on tea are regularly available at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.
